The Level Up Program
|
The Student Center will increase its student workforce from approximately 12 student employees to approximately 150, which is a 1,150% increase. The entire workforce will be required to participate in the Student Center learning and development system called The Level Up Program. As part of the program, students use a custom-developed, web-based application for tracking all of their training activities. It is an interactive, real-time checklist of all required reading, experience hours, training, and tests required at each of four levels of employment in each department: operations, landscaping, housekeeping, event services, audiovisual services, finance, marketing, IT tech support, and IT development. This web-based technology will be updated to better aggregate, synthesize, and visually display summary data of direct and indirect evidence of learning in all nine areas of expertise with more attention on specialized job competencies.
Mission Statement:
Foster the academic, social and cultural mission of the university with student involvement and development opportunities via employment and mentoring outside the classroom in a world-class facility offering year-round conference and event production services.

The Level Up Program (UNIT PROGRAM)
|
ASSESSING 2023-24 (UNIT OUTCOME): The previous assessment year (2022-23) identified opportunities for improving The Level Up Program software.
1. The software is data rich but information poor. Providing administrators user-friendly ways to search, sort, filter, print, share, save, and compare vast amounts of data is needed. UI Designs were completed in the 22-23 assessment period. Those are in production for deployment in 23-24 assessment period.
2. An effort is underway to update the Angular 6.0 front end to Angular 15. This will provide designers more alacrity and efficiency when improving or changing the user interface.
3. During the 22-23 assessment period, UI/UX completed designs for employee engagement and employee satisfaction surveys administered within Level Up. Those designs are in production for deployment in the 23-24 assessment period.
Completion of any one of these items will be a major improvement to the overall program.
Because The Level Up software is vital to measuring the team’s learning outcomes, it will be the object of analysis for a multi-part CAS Self-Assessment. Started during the 22-23, in-depth, 4-year assessment period, management will continue to complete “Work Forms A-E" from the CAS Self-Assessment Guidelines for Assessment Programs (2019). The results are expected to lead to actionable improvements to The Level Up software and Level Up program.
MISSION STATEMENT: During the 22-23 assessment period, as a results of the CAS SAG evaluation of tour assessment program, SCES developed a mission statement specifically for the assessment program.
SCES LO MISSION STATEMENT: Foster the professional growth and development opportunities via four levels of employment increasing in responsibility for UCI undergraduate and graduate students preparing for success in their current employment and in future professional settings.
During the 22-23 assessment period, Student Affairs completed an update to their mission statement. Therefore, SCES plans to continue the work by updating theirs in the 23-24 assessment period. When this happens, the SCES LO Mission Statement will be re-evaluated.

The Level Up Program (UNIT PROGRAM)
|
ASSESSING 2022-23 (UNIT OUTCOME): The previous assessment year (2021-22) identified opportunities for improving The Level Up Program software. The software is data rich but information poor. Providing administrators user-friendly ways to search, sort, filter, print, share, save, and compare vast amounts of data is needed. In addition to the opportunities identified in 2021-22, at least 61 product improvements to the front-end and back-end combined have been identified as being either on the backlog, in design, or handed off to developers. That is to say that at least 61 product improvements are somewhere in the production pipeline--but none of them have been started yet for the current assessment year. These improvements range from easy, low levels of effort to medium and high levels of effort. These 61 product improvements result from user suggestions (primarily administrative users) and general business objectives. Improvements to this software can be measured by the percent of completed mock-ups (design work) and the percent of deployments (development work) with more weight given to the number of deployments. Because The Level Up learning management system is an important tool in managing learning outcomes, it will be the object of analysis for a multi-part CAS Self-Assessment. This assessment will use "Work Forms A-E," which are heavily based on CAS Self-Assessment Guidelines for Assessment Programs (2019). The results are expected to lead to actionable improvements to The Level Up software but also to The Level Up program.

The Level Up Program CliftonStrengths (UNIT PROGRAM)
Personal Responsibility
150
ASSESSING 2023-24 (CliftonStrengths and Color Code Personality) (UNIT OUTCOME): Students participating in The Level Up Program at Level 1 will learn the keys to quality service by reading the Student Center’s Approach to Quality Service Handbook and then passing a 10-question quiz with a score of at east 80%. Whereas this was accomplished in the 22-23 assessment period, the test will now be moved into The Level Up LMS for improved record keeping and administration. This will also improve SALO reporting at year’s end.
Many students participating in leadership roles will identify their top strengths and most dominant talents as defined by the CliftonStrengths Assessment. Whereas it is believed that this type of self awareness in how students think, feel, and behave correlates to a more engaged, productive, happier, and healthier work life and prepares these students for leadership roles, this year’s assessment will focus less on deployment (that has been accomplished) and more on recording and reporting strengths in the Level Up software.

The Level Up Program CliftonStrengths (UNIT PROGRAM)
|
RE-ASSESSING 2022-23 (CliftonStrengths) (UNIT OUTCOME): Students participating in The Level Up Program at Level 3 or above will identify their top strengths and most dominant talents as defined by the CliftonStrengths Assessment. Whereas it is believed that this type of self awareness in how students think, feel, and behave correlates to a more engaged, productive, happier, and healthier work life and prepares these students for leadership roles, this year’s assessment will focus on deploying and recording the CliftonStrengths assessment consistently to all L3s and above. In the previous assessment year, it was believed to be the case that 100% of all students participating at L3 or above received this individualized assessment, but more was needed in systematically verifying that this assessment was completed. That will be the primary focus during this re-assessment period. Assessment devices include the StrengthsFinder 2.0 book and students’ self-reporting their strengths using The Level Up Program software or other means.

The Level Up Program
|
Student Center & Event Services (SCES) student employees participating in the Student Center's mandatory learning and development system called The Level Up Program at level 3 or higher will be assessed in the area of "Personal Responsibility,"a UCI Student Affairs Learning Domain that aligns with the "Intrapersonal development" and "Interpersonal competence" student outcome domains put forth by the Council for the Advancement of Standards. When students promote to level 3 or higher, they are expected to complete the CliftonStrengths Assessment (formerly StrengthsFinder 2.0). The assessment helps students identify and develop their top strengths and most dominant talents. This type of self awareness correlates to a more engaged, productive, happier, and healthier work life and prepares these students for leadership roles. The students' talents are assessed using the CliftonStrengths online assessment and required reading.
Mission Statement:
Foster the academic, social and cultural mission of the university with student involvement and development opportunities via employment and mentoring outside the classroom in a world-class facility offering year-round conference and event production services.

The Level Up Program
|
All newly hired SCES student employees will participate in the Student Center’s mandatory learning and development system called The Level Up Program. As part of the program, students are assessed in the area of “Personal Responsibility,†a UCI Student Affairs Learning Domain that aligns with the “Intrapersonal development†and “Interpersonal competence†student outcome domains put forth by the Council for the Advancement of Standards. During the onboarding process, each student is required to take a 40-question personality assessment called the Personality Code (formerly called Color Code), developed by Dr. Taylor Hartman. The assessment categorizes each student into one of four driving core motives. This personality assessment differs from Myers-Briggs and other similar personality assessments. The Myers-Briggs assesses current, learned, and sometimes changing character traits. The Personality Code assessment probes the unchanging, driving motivation of each individual. The assessment aids students in understanding what they do, why they do it, and how to relate to others personally and professionally. All new hires participating in The Level Up Program at level 1 will receive a basic assessment and information. Some students who participate in the program at levels 3 or 4 may receive a full, comprehensive assessment and report that prepares them for leadership roles. Learning in this area is assessed by a post-only assessment of students' self awareness and knowledge. This knowledge is reinforced through workplace discussions about team building and conflict resolution.
Mission Statement:
Foster the academic, social and cultural mission of the university with student involvement and development opportunities via employment and mentoring outside the classroom in a world-class facility offering year-round conference and event production services.
